Why Play a Pure Class?

Why Play a Pure Class?

With Blizzard’s new stance of allowing all specs of all hybrids to equal that of a pure class, why play one?

What is the purpose of playing a class that can only DPS, when ret paladins, enhancement shamans, elemental shamans, feral druids, balance druids, shadow priests, etc can all do your job just as well? Then when they’re sick of that role the paladin and druid can go be a tank because all tanks are created equal now too! Or hell, I’m sick of all of those specs listed above, I’m going to be a healer because all healers are created equal!

Why play a Mage? … A Rogue?

These classes get 3 different ways to do the same job. In raiding one spec is going to be mathematically the best and you will be locked into that spec. In PvP one spec is going to simply perform the best, and you’re going to be locked in there too. There MIGHT be a 2nd option that works in certain compositions (Think mutilate vs shadowstep, either way you’re still performing the same physical dps / stunlock role).

Meanwhile the hybrid classes enjoy playing all different styles equally as well as the pure classes…. Druids: Want to PvP as a healer? Go ahead! Want to be a rogue with heals? No problem! Want to be a mage with high magical dps + cc? Your choice buddy!

So why play a pure class? Thoughts?
